Queensland Fuel Subsidy Commission of Inquiry.
The Fuel Subsidy Commission of Inquiry was established on 23 August, 2007 to investigate aspects of the State Government’s fuel subsidy.
The Commission’s Terms of Reference include identifying any impediments to delivering the subsidy. This includes looking at questions of market power and competition in the retail and wholesale fuel markets and the structure of the industry as a whole.
The Commission will also consider whether there are better ways of delivering the subsidy.
This Inquiry was prompted by conclusions reached by the Queensland Treasury Fuel Task Force that the full 8.3 cents per litre subsidy was not reaching motorists.
The Inquiry is being conducted by former judge of the Queensland Court of Appeal and of the Federal Court, Hon. Bill Pincus QC. Counsel assisting are Mr Peter Davis SC and Jonathan Horton.
Submissions from members of the public and other interested parties were received.
The following report by the Commission was delivered 21 November 2007:
Part A - Questions arisen and answers to them
Part B - Survey of main issues
